Welcome to Frozen Shutter, the photography web site of Gary Jacobson.
When photographers hear the term “Frozen Shutter” it is not a good thing. It usually means that the lens is stuck or frozen. I have a different interpretation, mine is that if a shutter is stuck open you can see things that others simply might not see. My goal is to create images that are reflections of nature which inspire others to seek out the beauty in the nature that surrounds us everyday.
I have a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spend as much time as possible learning and understanding how to relate to nature. I have developed an incredible amount of patience chasing the first light of day or the final glimpse of light at sunset. Each time I am out exploring nature I learn more and am grateful for the amazing diversity and beauty.

Art Biography
I was born and raised in Minnesota. I have been fortunate to visit 46 states and 15 countries. With all of the places I have visited Minnesota has always called me back home to its abundant lakes, trees, rolling hills and diverse wildlife.
As a self-taught photographer, my first memories of photography were when I was seven years old with a brownie camera shooting black and white pictures of The Grand Tetons and Yosemite National Parks. That should have been a big clue as to what was to come for me. I enjoyed capturing images of the mountains and rivers while attending summer camp in Montana. Those early experiences in the mountains continued to feed my interest in nature photography. I have always felt a special bond with animals/wildlife and they naturally became subjects for my camera as well. My passion for nature and wildlife photography continues to grow with each passing year.
I enjoy participating in nearly any outdoor activities, especially hiking, biking and fishing. You can be sure that my camera is close by and ready to capture whatever comes my way. I have been blessed with a wonderful family and a supportive wife who understands that my photography is part of who I am. I never would have guessed that I would have been blessed with such a gift. I cannot take credit for my photography, God provides the beauty and I am just fortunate enough to be there to capture it with my camera.
